Hi Candice!

My question(s):

How can it be, that your voice, your sang words touches my soul so deeply? Why is my world sometimes just “black”, “more” than the “night” can be dark…..Why do I get some hope, when I listen to you? Why does nobody “hear my voice”, like you in the end of “the village lanterne”? Why do I write this senseless mail? Just for a small answer!!

Goodbye, love and light
Dietmar

Dear Dietmar,
Because your soul is sensitive to touch. Because the night eventually gives itself to the light of morning, but black is always in itself black. Because if you look for hope, it will find you. I hear your voice. And I will answer....
Love and light,
Candice

Dear Candice,

I absolutely, positively LOVE Blackmore's Night, but I have one question that is absolutely, positively burning a hole in my brain.

What the heck is an electric bagpipe?! How does it work? Does the electric part just handle amplification, or does it blow up the bag part? OK, I know, I know, that's three questions, but I'm curious! I was trying to figure out what the bagpipe-like sound was that I was hearing (I've downloaded most of your albums from iTunes rather than buying the CDs due to storage space issues in my overcrowded-with-books-and-musical-instruments flat) -- it didn't sound quite like a traditional bagpipe, but it didn't sound like a uilleann pipe either... what key are the electric bagpipes tuned to? Are they concert pitch, or something else? What's their range? Wow, I am just full of questions tonight! I can tell I'm bouncing off the walls, LOL! Too much chocolate. ;-)

Keep the music playing!
~Sal

Hi Sal,
Good question! I have 2 electric bagpipes. They dont have a bag, you can either plug them into an amp or they may come with their own speaker which is on the actual unit. To hear the one I played, listen to our song Mid Winters Night. Here is the one that I had that included the speaker within the unit: http://www.hotpipes.com/ross.html . It works by the contact of your fingers on the metal dots. Your fingers must be a bit moist in order to play it or it wont recognize a contact. You can tune it depending on how many of the "dots" you are covering, that will correspond to different keys. It will have a continuous drone. Then again if you don't want the drone, you can always just play the bagpipe chanter, which you can hear me doing on I Guess It Doesn't Matter Anymore. So many variations of bagpipes an play with, without the actual bag!
I suddenly have the urge to go have a piece of chocolate...
Thanks for your question!
Love and light,
Candice

Dear Candice !

Congratulations to your new CD SECRET VOYAGE - I love it.

However, I miss the lyrics of my favourite song RAINBOW EYES in the booklet.
Were there any CopyRight reasons not to print it?

Anyway, I'm looking forward and count-down the days until to see you, Ritchie and the whole gang next month in
Karlsruhe/Germany (got tickets already several months ago :-)))

Warmest greetings from Germany,
Roland

Hello Roland,
Yes, when we do a cover version of a song, if you want to reprint lyrics, you need to get permission. So you may notice in the cds, we haven't printed the lyrics of the Bob Dylan song, the Joan Baez song, the Rednexx song, the Renaissance song, the Elvis song- any one which we didn't write the words to . Luckily with the invention of the internet, though, people can always find lyrics on a site devoted to lyrics for any songs that they are seeking.
See you in Germany!
Love,
Candice

Dear Candice and Ritchie,

First congratulations to you on getting the number 1 spot on the New Age chart. I am a new listener to your work. A friend recommended I listen to you music, something I am now very thankful for. I got hold of your new album and I was blown away. “Locked within the Crystal Ball”, I felt my soul being lifted. Your voice and Ritchie’s guitar playing are simply magical. I have since gone out and bought you previous album and each is a joy to listen to. I am hoping that you will play the UK again soon. I would love to be there in full costume.

My question is where do you find your inspiration from?

Wishing you and Ritchie
Love, light and happiness

Lee Mckenna
Edinburgh, UK

Hello Lee,
Welcome to our Blackmore's Night family! I am so glad you found us. We are looking forward to coming back to the UK next year! Hope to see you then. Inspiration for me is easy to find. I can get lost in the colors of a flower or a sunset for hours. The way the wind blows through the trees or the song of crickets entrances me. I love to be lost in nature and find much inspiration through her. There is much simplicity in the complexity of nature. Also, I love learning of the legends and myths and faerie tales of particular regions. The Lorelei, Benzaiten, ghost stories like the story of Resurrection Mary in I Guess It Doesn't Matter Anymore, there is much to be found in olden tales. And then of course, experience, what I have gone through, what friends have gone through, stepping in to the shoes of different people or characters throughout centuries. Oh, inspiration is just everywhere- you just have to let it find you...
Love and light,
Candice

Dear Candice,

My name's Laura, I'm 15, from England, and I'm a big fan of yours!

Blackmore's Night introduced me to a whole new genre (through Ritchie - I absolutely fell in love with Rainbow and Deep Purple when I was about 12). The music is so amazing, no music has ever put a smile on my face and make me see the true beauty of the world and nature like your music does.

It seems to have truly changed my life for the better, my perception on life especially. I guess it's made me consider greatly what I want to do with my life. I guess I'm a bit like you in that I'm a bit too creative for my own good (although of course that's a good thing!). I do bits of modelling (I found out through this website you used to too!) but I've never felt it's me, I've never liked it too much, I think because I can't be myself. I've thought of going into music (I play guitar and drums, I'm not quite up to Ritchie and Squire Malcolm standard yet, but I hope I'm getting there!). I guess it's just a hard industry. So I was hoping you might have some advice because I kinda need some, and I think we're quite alike in our views of the world and nature :)

And I also wanted to add a big thank you for this wake up call I guess, I suppose I might have spent most of my life in a career and way of life that I'd hate deep down, and my quality of life has truly improved, as now the eyes that see it have been opened. I find the fact that music can do that to a person pretty incredible...

Overall, I think Blackmore's Night's music is truly inspirational (and my parents blame you for my new found Renaissance clothing obsession and the frequent trips to York!), and you're absolutely beautiful!

And long may we continue to enjoy the music of Blackmore's Night!

Love,
Laura xxx

P.s- We share the same birthday, I was born on 8th May 1992! :)

Hello Laura,
You sound like  a true artist, its a blessing and a curse. You have such sensitivity in a world that seems to be running on the insensitive. If music is something you love to do, follow on that path. Whether you play for fun, for an escape or as a career, if it is your calling you will know because you won't be able to live without it. But whether you  go into that or something else that allows you to delve into your creativity, whatever you may choose, you will have that outlet.
Also, never compare yourself musically to anyone else. It's much more important that you keep your own identity whatever you are playing or singing. Sound like you.
I'm glad that you have become entranced with the magic of the renaissance time period. York is beautiful!
Thank you for your letter! And happy belated birthday.
Love and light,
Candice

hi, dear Candice!

My name is Svetlana Hineva,18 years old, from Bulgaria.
I like "Blackmore's Night" from a lot of time.Your music,your voice...they are really so beautiful...so romantic...:)
And you are so pretty singer...really.
I have a dream-someday i want to be a singer-because the music..the singing are my life...really...someday,..i hope..my dreams will come true...
And i hope..someday i'll singing the same music-like "Blackmore's Night"-i mean-romantic...;)

My question for you:is it difficult to stay a really good singer-alone or in a band-because there are so many people-girls,boys really talanted,but..the life is so hard...and the dreams so unbelievable...and for me too-i want to stay a really good singer, with audience...with my own songs...but..sometimes i don't know how...i just don't have any idea...it doesn't matter how long will take...how pain...how privations...for me-but i want it with all my heart, and sometimes i would do anything for this dream...but...i just try and try...and nothing...But still i hope...in this my "unbelievable" dream.I love the singing, the melody, the music...this is something really beautiful...
And one other my dream-to be a singer in "Blackmore's Night",with you, with Richie...and with the other great people there...but...again-dream...

best wishes
love
Svetlana

Dear Svetlana,
Never give up your dream...not for anyone or anything. Dreams are what keep us alive. This is a hard business but what you get in return in your soul is priceless. If you love something enough, the difficult uphill battle is worth the climb. Things that come easy are never really the things that move you so deeply.
Create your songs, sing out loud, wear your passion proudly, no one can take it away from you ...unless you let them. Don't give up... Whether you have an audience of 1 or 1,000...sing because you believe in your dream. The birds sing only to the sky - just because they love to sing... whether anyone is listening or not.
Music is an amazing escape, and a wonderful dream to have....
Let it live on!!
Love and light,
Candice

hi candice,
Back in October my wife and I came to your concert at the Dome in Brighton.
Having previously bought 2 of your CD's Under a Violet Moon and Fires at Midnight amd liked them a lot.
Needless to say we thoroughly enjoyed the concert and didn't want it to end. We took the opportunity of buying 3 more of your CD's while we were there, these were Shadows of the Moon, Ghost of a Rose and Village Lanterne.
Our music tastes are many and varied. It's very much the case of if we hear it and like it we buy it.
UnfortunatelyI don't buy the DVD's as I am totally blind and as you can imagine get all my enjoyment by just listening to the music and drifting off to all soughts of different places.
Many years ago when I had sight, I was in a local pop group and played drums and we had a lot of fun in those days.
However, the reasons for writing apart to let you know how much we enjoy the music, is to ask you about a number you did at the Brighton Gig, which was about a Christmas tree and I think gifts around it. I recently bought the Winter Carol CD and expected to find it on there but of course it wasn't. Please could you tell me if it is on a CD and if so which one.

David & Sheila Ide Brighton U.K

Hello David and Sheila,
Thank you for your sweet words and I am so glad to hear that you are enjoying the music so much. Actually, as I'm sure that you noticed when hearing us perform live, many of the songs we have done have changed over the years- different arrangements, different instrumentation, even my voice has changed a bit in the past 11 years! And of course Ritchie never plays the same songs the same way twice. A live performance is usually so charged with energy that you get and give to and from the audience that it is hard to duplicate that on cd. So, you may enjoy the audio of the dvds just because they are always a bit different than the recorded version. Once we step on stage, our world changes.
The song you are referring to isn't actually on any of our cds....yet! It is called First of May and was originally done by the Bee Gees but I first heard it done in concert by Sarah Brightman and fell in love with it.
Someday, we'll record it... but right now we're enjoying the magic we get while doing it in a live stage environment.

So glad you liked it!
Love and light,
Candice
