Hello Candice,
First I would like to thank you for your
extraordinary voice and for the magnificent
cover of "soldier of fortune" you performed
live with Ritchie.
It made me shivering ;-)
As you live music with passion, I would like
to share with you this information.
I'm a member of the french tinitus
association:
http://www.france-acouphenes.org
I've been suffering from tinitus for 9
years.
As a result I'm trying to collect
information from musicians to write a "best
practise guide" that would describe the way
musicians handle their tinitus and manage to
continue to play music on a day to day
basis.
If you are interested by this concept, don't
hesitate to write me an email it will be an
honor to exchange with you on this subject.
Cheers,
Laurent
Dear Laurent,
What an interesting concept! I know many
musicians come down with this malady and it
is enough to drive you to madness. I have
occasional bouts with tinitus- but mine
isn't the high pitched kind. Its a low
rumbling hum that continues until the
frequency is stopped by another sound-
whether it is speech or some other type of
noise. But in the still of night it rears
its head. I went to an ear nose throat
doctor who basically told me that he has the
same thing and to just live with it. So I
started doing research of my own and foun
dthat if I take 2 tablets of Ginko Biloba
for a few days in a row- the rumbling
subsides. I don't know if the increased
circulation due to the Ginko is what is
making a difference, and if so if that means
that the tinitus is being caused by some
other blockage of the blood flow in my ear
canal or from my neck going up to my ears.
It doesn't seem to be consistant with
performance even though I do use in ear
monitors as it seems to occur more when I'm
off the road than on. Anyway, that really
seems to help me to get the sound to subside
and ultimately go away for weeks even months
at a time.
Thank you for your question and for helping
others with this difficult medical subject.
Best of luck to you and your studies.
Love,
Candice
Dear Candice,
I Just want to say thank you.
I have been a fan for a few years now & get
to see you each time you come to the UK.
Which of course is never enough, I never
want you to come off stage!.
I had a nervous breakdown late last year &
spent some time in hospital, it was you guys
that kept me going. My reality was all over
the place & my mind awash with thoughts. I
would not only listen to you, but also watch
your dvds. It always managed to lift my
spirits, so thank you from the bottom of
both my heart & soul for keeping me going.
I have a number of songs that l love, but if
l was to pick one it would have to be
Hanging Tree. No matter how many times l
play it, it always makes me cry. Tears of
sorrow & joy, what an amazing song.
I only have one question, are you a Pagan?
Or is it just because that's what l'm
wanting to hear. I know we all take
different meanings from songs, so is it just
me!
Take care & l look forward to your next UK
visit.
Poppy :)
Hello Poppy,
You name is also a nickname I call my cat-
my soul mate and true love! I am so sorry to
hear that you went through such a hard time.
This world can be so hard to navigate
through especially on those brave enough to
feel too much. I'm glad that in our small
way we were able to help somewhat through
our songs. I have a similar reaction to
Hanging Tree. Perhaps we can see reflections
of ourselves within her story , her
branches, her roots?
I am often asked that question...my only
answer can be that I am just not comfortable
fitting into any one box neatly. I am in awe
of nature and have the greatest respect and
a fierce need to protect her. I am in awe of
the magic that she shows us daily and
nightly. And she inspires my music and my
words and my life on every level. But as far
as spiritually- am continue to search. They
say- Not all who wander are lost. Well, I
continue to wander, to learn and grow and be
amazed by all that is around us. I am a work
in progress and hope it continues that way.
It's not to evade the question- its just to
be true to who I am...
Much love,
Candice
Thanks Candice for the answer about The
Old Mill Inn Song. I would have asked you
the same question!!! But since this is the
third time I write you, I tell you this
story hoping this time for an answer: My
Baby girl ( 7 years old) waited till the end
of the Seriate (Italy) Concert (
unforgettable) to sing with you "Down at the
old mill Inn" but it didn't happen. Will you
be back in Italy to perform that beautiful
song? Can you give us another chance or have
we got "no second Chance"??
CIAO From ITALY!!!!!!
A Dad named RUDI (old Rainbow fan)
Hello Rudi,
Of course we will be back in Italy! I think
they are working on dates for 2009 for Italy
right now!
As soon as they are confirmed we will post
them. Would you believe I really wanted the
Italian record label to let us do a single
of Old Mill Inn in Italian, but they
wouldn't let me do it. Strange world isn't
it? I thought it would've been perfect....
Next time when we play make sure to request
that song loud and clear when we ask for
requests... I'm ready to sing when Ritchie's
ready to play it!
Love and light,
Candice

Lilu
Hello Lilu,
I do hope that you were able to come see us
play this year in St Petersburg. The fans
there are always so amazing to us... This
year was a bit difficult- Ritchie had a
terrible bronchitis in his lungs and wound
up taking treatment in the hospital in St
Petersburg. Then we rushed off to the show
so we could still play for the fans. It was
hard on him, but he did it for all the
people who had traveled so far in Russia to
see us play.
We would love to come to the different towns
in Russia- it seems a bit tricky to get to
some of them with the roads being the way
they are and traveling with the equipment.
But each each I think the roads and travel
in Russia gets a bit better so hopefully
someday soon we can go to all the towns we'd
like to in Russia, maybe your town will be
one of them!
Much love,
Candice
Dear Candice
My family all love your music especially my
brother and I. We are wondering how you and
Ritchie write your music because I have
tried and I cannot seem to make any of songs
I write work.
We were also wondering if you are going to
visit the south for any of concerts. I went
to one of your concerts in 2007 and I was
fantastic and we were in the front all
dressed up! My brother still keeps the cup
which Ritchie gave him a beer in the middle
of the concert.
We would all like to say that WE LOVE
BLACKMORE’S NIGHT!!!!
All my Luck and love
Rebekah
Hello Rebekah,
Thanks for your compliments and questions. I
think the best way to write songs is not to
force them. Many of my ideas for lyrics come
at times in which I wasn't looking for the
words- while I'm driving, staring out at the
ocean, walking through the woods or even in
the shower! I also think it may be a bit
unconventional the way Ritchie and I write
as he will come up with the music and then I
take that music and write to what the tune
wants to be about and what pictures are
painted in my head by the melody. So I have
to fit in the visual with the syncopation
and the right amount of syllables and
rhyming schemes have to fit in there as
well. But just do what feels natural to you.
It will come if you let it. Be open and
always keep a pen and paper around. Even if
you free form write some of those ideas can
be used later in your songs. It opens up the
flood gates and more will come.
We hope to do some more touring in the south
next year!
Hope to see you then.
Love and light,
Candice
